I’ve been to Marrakech. It was certainly not the most beautiful city nor is the architecture particularly fine. The city is largely a dust bowl. The people won’t look you in the eye nor do they smile. There is no public art outside of pictures of the Royal Portraits of the King. There is nearly no music. The market is a tourist trap. The night life is non-existent. After dark the streets feel distinctly unsafe. In addition to the general depressing nature of the city, you have the young french who visit. Many of these young women dress in revealing clothing as if there were back in Paris not surrounded by young men whose mothers and sisters are largely completely covered. The French are also inexplicably arrogant which befuddles considering the long decline of that once spectacular civilization. The only reason that I can imagine the French visit here is because they are broke and Morocco is relatively cheap. On visiting our local bar each evening for a glass of Moroccan wine, the staff remarked repeatedly on how they found the French not only rude but extraordinarily miserly. Overall, I say go if you have no better place to visit. Otherwise, visit Spain.

This hotel is owned by the government of Brunei, where Muslim shariah law is practiced. When you stay here, you are condoning the chopping off of arms for theft in Brunei. Shameful.

Several months ago I had an afternoon tea there and it was altogether, a somewhat underwhelming experience. The afternoon tea could have been much better and the building itself lacks patina, in my opinion. What was very good indeed, was the service: IMPECCABLE!

Was thinking about staying here on my next trip to Singapore and then...and then....I saw 0:39 WHERE YOU HAD TO OPEN THE FRONT DOOR YOURSELF!?!?!?!? WHERE WAS THE DOORMAN???? Hard Pass, Raffles. You just lost a customer.

I stayed here in either 1969 or 1970 before renovation. I was in the US Coast Guard working aids to navigation in Vietnam. It wasn’t run down just old, but very unique. We had a huge three room suite and the hotel bar was nice.

In 2019 I stayed at Hotel Grande Bretagne in room #428 for 3 days, went to Santorini for a week, and returned for 1 day at King George before going to Mykonos… definitely it was magic and an honor to have been there and enjoying of their exceptional cuisine, thank you very much for posting this video. Our Butler took a picture of us in the library of the hotel. I dressed in a beautiful ball gown and got my husband to dress in clothes from the period. The picture now hangs over the fireplace in our house. The whole experience from arrival, when a chauffeur picked us up from the airport, to the front row seats and champagne for the incredible fireworks show, to the hotel packed picnic and golf carts to get to the perfect picnic spot on the grounds, to the private access to the Palace, the Petit Trianon, and the Hamlet, it was the most perfect trip I have ever been on.

We stayed there for our Anniversary in 2022. It was magnificent!

I was here last June with my aunt, grandmother, and cousin. We each had a slice of the Sacher Torte, and it was incredible! I had a dream since ai was young to go to Europe, and it was a dream come true. The food we had throughout our trip was absolutely delicious!
